Hullo Everyone,
Now that Spring time has officially arrived we think it time to update you with things that the Asociación has organised over the fairly busy winter and events in which we are participating and/or organising during the next month or so.

Now that Spring time has officially arrived we think it time to update you with things that the Asociación has organised over the fairly busy winter and events in which we are participating and/or organising during the next month or so.

A fund raising event in aid of Menorca AECC (Asociation against Cancer) Saturday 1st April from 10.00AM Sandra Berresford has asked to relay to you— “Another craft group has been busy recently and has decided to hold a fund raiser at Bar Nelson, Son Vitamina in order to sell some of their pieces. Hot Cross buns and scones have been ordered from Geoff the Baker plus there will be a selection of other bakes for sale. Entry will be 5 Єuros including coffee and cake.”

Although this is running from March 27th until Sunday April 2nd it is this final day that may interest you most. Sunday 2nd April at 12.30 PM there is a Competition of Paellas being held in the Marquee in the Plaza Esplanada where it will be possible to buy a portion for 5 Єuros. Drinks will be available to purchase. Tables and chairs are being reserved for members of various organisations and should you be interested in attending then we need to give numbers to the Ayuntamiento by Tuesday 28th March. So RSVP please as soon as possible.

Saturday April 8th at 10.00 AM We are delighted by the interest you have shown and the visit is already well subscribed but there are still places available as we are not limited to numbers. The event is free for members but non members are very welcome to whom a charge will be made of 5 Єuros per person to help our Asociación funds. You will see below where these funds help on various events.

Tuesday 11th April. Together with the English teachers Pilar Puente, Elena Serra and Debora Piri, our regular volunteers Jane Cannon, Sheila Lyons and Bob Wickens are organising a special Easter morning event for the children. This will be similar to that which Polly and Steve Morgan have organised for Menorca Britannia at the CEIP Antoni Juan in Mahón every Christmas for the last five years with English games etc and break time food. Polly has very kindly offered to help in organising and coordinating the preparing of sandwiches, the making of cakes and pastries etc. She has already contacted her merry band of “troops” but with almost 300 hungry little children to feed at break time she is obviously in need of as much help as possible. If you are willing to lend a hand Polly would be delighted and we would ask you to contact her direct on 971 151 960. Oh, and by the way, any costs of materials will be reimbursed by this Asociación. Pilar and Elena would also be delighted for any Menorca Britannia members to attend and help the teachers mingle with the students, in organising the programme of games and speaking in English.

May, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 12/13/14 We have been asked to participate in this effort to encourage more flowers and plants in the town. You are, no doubt, aware that we established a garden around our donated statue of the Pregonero (town Crier) in the Plaza Esplanada. This is regularly well maintained by Jane and Michael Cannon, It is thought that as this is where Menorca Britannia have the only permanent situation in the town that we could enhance the appearance of the garden with perhaps some large pots of flowering plants, especially now that the kids no longer encroach. Whatever, Es Castell should be looking great for this weekend and is ready to welcome you.

It is expected that these will continue on a regular basis throughout the summer. We want to give more publicity to the holiday makers via the tour operators and hotels. Although we were hoping to include details in this news letter, unfortunately to date we have no information as to when these will take place. We will let you know as soon as details are available.
