Saturday 30th April, myself, accompanied by Sheila, Richard and Ann Yarrow attended the memorial service for Carmen Marcén in the Church of Carmen, Mahón on behalf of all members. Ann has worked as a volunteer in the shop in Mahón for several years. We were able to convey our condolences from us all to Toni, her husband. The church was full to capacity with relations and friends and so many people who had been touched by her outstanding work. Carmén and Toni started Caritas way back during the eighties to be followed by S’Altra Senalla and opened the Fair Trade shops in Mahón and Ciutadella. Menorca Britannia Members will remember that, several years ago, we jointly arranged with two events, a coffee morning and afternoon tea in the Gentlemen’s Club (Casino) in Plaza Principe to highlight Fair Trade to the local people. Shortly after she and Toni moved to Ecuador as missionaries to carry out the good work there. Unfortunately she died there some 8 weeks ago at the age of just 52years.

It is a privilege that Menorca Britannia has a written agreement to arrange the twice weekly visits. At the first starting last Monday we were pleased to welcome a total of 23 people in two groups which boded well for the season. As you know we have a provision for 3 visits of 12 people each Monday and Friday. Last Friday, however only 10 had booked and for this coming Monday 2nd May we are unfortunately, having to cancel as only 2 people have so far booked. It is not financially viable for Iñigo and Camilla to employ staff to be on hand and obviously for ourselves to give of our time. We are a little disappointed as it was envisaged that there would be a much greater demand from the British resident. Obviously the season is only just starting with the first British arrivals on Monday and Tuesday but we do need you all to promote these visits. Should you need any posters please telephone although, of course, you can always print some off to distribute amongst your neighbours. We hope to be fully booked for next Friday 6th.

There was an enormous response of positive e-mails regarding using the garden terrace of Golden Farm to view the aerobatic display. We are pleased to say that we have an agreement with Iñigo and Camilla and a poster showing details will be sent within the next 24 hours. Bookings must be made by telephone to Sheila and there will be space for everyone and their guests.

Details have just been completed and you should look out for the poster, again within the next couple of days. As it is now the start of the tourist season Sheila will not be able to make any arrangements or take telephone calls for this. The final details, telephone bookings and the organisation of the communal picnic have been delegated to Roy Sutherland. The poster will clearly state this.
